We gathered today as the university community for a time of fellowship and spiritual nourishment during the Tuesday Chapel Service, where the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Kiplangat, shared the word of God.
Drawing from John 20:21, Matthew 9:35–38, and John 17:14–18, the Vice Chancellor reminded the congregation that the world is characterized by diverse people, cultures, traditions, and beliefs. However, as Christians, our calling is clear: We are in the world, but not of the world.We are therefore called to Shine in a Dark World
Reflecting on Jesus’ prayer in John 17:14–18, Prof. Kiplangat encouraged believers to remain faithful to their Christian identity and to shine as lights in a world that needs hope, truth, and compassion.
He emphasized that Christians are strategically positioned in different spheres of society to influence others positively and demonstrate the love of Christ through their words, actions, and professional responsibilities.
He reminded the congregation that Kenya Highlands University was established with a distinct vision and Christian mission. The University is strategically positioned not only to impart knowledge and develop professional skills, but also to provide holistic training anchored in Christian values.
He challenged staff and students to understand, embrace, and internalize the University’s core values, emphasizing the importance of being proud of KHU’s Christian identity.
As a Christian institution, KHU seeks to integrate faith, life, and learning, ensuring that education goes beyond the lectureroom to shape character, values, service, and purpose.
The Vice Chancellor emphasized that a mission university carries a unique responsibility to train believers who can serve as missionaries wherever God places them to serve.
He challenged the KHU community to work towards producing professionals who will stand firmly on God’s Word and uphold Christian values in their workplaces, families, churches, and communities.
He expressed the University’s desire to raise a generation with the courage and conviction to say “No” to practices that contradict God’s Word and Christian principles.
Such graduates, he noted, should not only be academically competent but also demonstrate integrity, compassion, courage, and a strong sense of responsibility to society.
He further challenged members of the congregation to begin by examining themselves and asking whether they are still firmly grounded in the faith emphasizing that effective Christian witness begins with personal transformation. Before seeking to influence others, believers must continually examine their own walk with Christ and remain committed to their faith and to emulate the compassion of Jesus by reaching out to people in need.
He called upon staff and students to embrace community service as an expression of Christian faith and serve the less fortunate and contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of society.
The Chapel Service concluded with a strong reminder of KHU’s responsibility as a Christian institution.At KHU, the mission focus extends beyond the classroom. It is about transforming lives, shaping character, serving communities, and preparing professionals who will faithfully represent Christ wherever they are placed.
