Tuesday Chapel service stood out as a truly significant and memorable moment in the life of Kenya Highlands University. It was not just another gathering for worship only, but a meaningful occasion that marked the official handover of leadership of the KHU Student Association (KHUSA).
The service was anchored in the Word of God, reminding everyone present that leadership is first and foremost a calling to serve. This spiritual foundation set the tone for the ceremony, which proceeded with prayers and the formal swearing-in of the incoming student leaders.
The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Advocate Gideon Ngetich, adding a formal and professional dimension to the transition process. It was a moment filled with both reflection and anticipation; reflection on the journey of the outgoing team and anticipation of the new chapter ahead.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic, Research, and Student Affairs,Rev. Dr. Paul Lokol appreciated the outgoing leadership team for the commendable work they had done during their tenure. His remarks recognized their dedication, resilience, and contribution to strengthening student leadership within the university.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Kiplangat, expressed gratitude for the peaceful and successful electoral process. He acknowledged the importance of maintaining integrity and order in student governance, noting that such processes reflect the broader values of the university community.
He congratulated the incoming leadership team and challenged them to rise to the responsibility entrusted to them. Emphasizing unity, he encouraged them to work together cohesively and to speak with one voice, especially when representing the interests of the student body.
Beyond unity, he highlighted key areas that should define their leadership tenure. These included fostering effective communication and creating reliable feedback channels between students and administration. He also underscored the importance of nurturing leadership development among students and extending their impact beyond campus through meaningful community outreach initiatives.
The chapel service served as a powerful reminder that leadership is not merely about positions, but about purpose, service, and influence. As the new KHUSA team begins its journey, there is great hope that they will build on this foundation and lead with integrity, vision, and a commitment to unity.
